The only Lincoln I know has a cathedral in it.

+1. Plenty of my cars are 8-10 yrs old. The last thing I want is for my customers to think they’re getting main dealer service.

When I was a boy any reference to a Lez at school was an insult that referred to a female who preferred the company of other females to males.
    How times have changed!

It just goes to show what I’ve always said about reviews. Absolute bullshit.
I sold a car yesterday. The buyer commented on my good reviews. The strangest thing is  I haven't a clue what he was going on about. There’s no fucker left me any good reviews that I’m aware of.

I must have spoken to about 10 traders this week. Every single one has said it’s desperate.
Just ignore the arsehole offers, they never come to anything & just suck the life out of you if you let them.
It’s so dead the auction halls are all half-empty of bidders - I’ve been to five different sites in the last fortnight & they were all the same. After wading through the battered shite there are a few nice cheapish cars if you’ve got money to spend.
Retailing is currently knackered just about everywhere. I see yet another major high street operator (Arcadia Group) are closing more stores than anticipated. It’s the start of the slippery slope - I assume they’ll be history in another couple of years.

I struggle to believe anything above 5K is an automatic seller and also that anyone’s ‘having it off’ at the moment.

That is true but there’s also a gulf of difference between a straight trade buyer & certain other traders who are Champagne taste, lemonade money.

Don’t worry, if he’s anything like the emailers wanting valuations from me he’ll want retail for his ‘minter’ - usually no history, bald tyres, shagged brakes, 2 weeks MOT instead of the 10 months he claimed + an extra 40,000 miles.

Very true. Tbh my attitude is if the greedy public wish to get involved let them - they’ll get a free education in economics.

I think your correct. Unless it’s something they can plug in & convince themselves it’s a £30 bodge repair. If there’s a code or two to be read on the shit £25 code reader I have in my drawer then the ‘Spares Or Repair Brigade’ struggle with the concept of spending £150 in parts & a mornings graft - basically it’s beyond their mental grasp.
There’s a reason why many people are skint. It’s because they are lazy & greedy.
  14. Area 51 liked a post in a topic by BHM in Any Volvo chaps on here?
I’m assuming it’s clear at standstill & comes on at speed.
If it happens at various speeds then most likely ABS ring is cracked and slips hence the light coming on at various speed - this is a Volvo regular.
    Occasionally ABS sensor.
    Also occasionally the ABS pump.
Read & clear the code, as long as it’s the same sensor coming back faulty then it’s not the pump and although it could obviously be the sensor it’ll most likely be the ring. They love a ring, do Volvos.

Straight talk & mechanical preparation - it’s easier doing the job right in the first place.
They ALL get used for a few miles (usually at least 50), I correct anything mechanically deficient (or sell those beyond hope clearly as such), reMOT about 90%, fuck off what I consider to be arseholes over the phone, I do not respond to texts, only sell to people who I consider acceptable customers, talk straight & deal straight. The fact I only shift about 100 per year obviously helps.
In the last 2.5 years I’ve put my hand in my pocket once (£50 & told the man to go to Trading Standards if he wasn’t happy - an old p/x Astra that he wanted new alternator money for but as I pointed out old cars have old parts). In that time I’ve probably had 2 or 3 other phone calls from chancers trying it on (usually on my bottom end stock) “cos my mechanic says xxxxxx” - a few questions soon catches out this scum at which point I tell them to jog on. However in that time I’ve lost count of the number of NEW clutches, tyres, calipers, batteries, wheel bearings, disc & pads I’ve renewed prior to sale so I guess my ALMOST hassle-free business model has its price.
I’ve cursed myself now, there’ll be a flood of whingers on Tuesday

Years ago I’d of said you might nab one or two but tbh I find nowadays it makes little difference cos if they don’t get bids the auctioneers bounce bids off the walls. They might as well replace auctioneers with machines nowadays.
I don’t know with your type of stock but with mine I can hardly find any cars I really want anyway. Finding suitable stock seems desperate at the moment, or the stock offered is in desperate condition

    That’s called “The Mrs”.
So so true. My last two XC90s (£5500 & 5750) the buyers did not give a toss, both deals done in about 15 minutes. It’s worth mentioning that they had usual Volvo side bolster material splitting - I pointed it out to the buyers this weekend & they looked at me as though I was from outer space for even mentioning it. Now imagine the response of the typical BMW/VAG man! What would follow would be a pitiful display of greed, whinging & nonsensical comments brought on by their expectations of perfection.
  18. David Horgan liked a post in a topic by BHM in “Sold?! But what did it sell for?!”
The trouble is greedy messers are greedy messers, it’s in their genes. They say they’ve missed out on other cars yet fuck about & miss out again.

I thought it was just me. A cold caller has an 08 80K mile petrol Megane CC painted by Ray Charles. He thinks he’s trading in gold dust. He claims he’s put on new brakes, brake pipes etc. for the MOT. It books at something like £520 Average money. He values it at £1200, I say “Provisionally £600 ASSUMING IT’S ALL GOOD, THAT MEANS 100% OK” & tell him to go & sort his finances out.
When he leaves I quickly check the MOT history. It has 4 months MOT on it & the brake pipes/discs etc. we’re replaced at the PREVIOUS MOT 20 months ago! Fucking bullshitters, if we dealt like the public we’d be up before the bench.

For an internet trader like me it’s dickheads’ day anyway, weekend punters aren’t really my bag. They always seem to either have “others to see”, need to “think about it” or find some alleged issue to give them an excuse to walk away - basically tyrekickers not ready to buy. Any business I do is sometime during Mon-Fri.
