Audi introducing a virtual-reality sales revolution

Time 10:49 am, January 16, 2015

audiTHERE’S going to be a posh new addition to Audi showrooms by the end of the year.

The manufacturer is adding The Audi VR Experience, a digital revolution that will allow customers to configure their preferred car at the dealership through virtual reality headsets, and experience it in a unprecedentedly realistic way.

The headset showcases the entire model portfolio, including all possible equipment combinations.

Luca de Meo, a member of the board of management for sales and marketing at Audi AG (with a title like that, his business card must be HUGE), presented the Audi VR Experience this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Customers will experience the virtual Audi world on a new level, says de Meo, in three dimensions, with all sound effects, and almost life‑like. They can virtually take a seat behind the wheel of their individually-configured dream car or take a look in the trunk. A camera tracks the movements of the user’s head and the system adapts the image displayed accordingly.

Audi will bring the new sales tool to first dealers by the end of this year. In future, there will be a mobile set-up allowing dealers to take it to customers’ homes.
