Colin's Afghanistan role

Time 10:37 am, August 3, 2010

2030A WEB firm’s commercial director is trading cars for combat as he heads out to Afghanistan for nine months.

Colin Mathieson, from JustGoodCars.com, has been called up for operational duties spending the next nine months working with the Royal Air Forces Aeromedical Evacuation Specialists as a liaison officer in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Aside from his day job working for one of the UK’s fastest growing used car classified websites, Colin has served with the Air Force for 25 years as medical support officer.

His unit’s role involves the transportation of injured personnel from the front line to the nearest medical facility, often treating troops en route. His nine-month deployment will be his third Operational Tour of Duty; his two previous tours were in the two Gulf wars of 1991 and 2003.

‘The two careers complement each other in many ways – both involve managing and leading teams to achieve set goals and targets, each benefits from the experiences and training that the other offers,’ said Mathieson.

‘I’m certain that I wouldn’t have achieved the commercial success I have without my life in the Forces or that I would have been promoted to my current rank and been selected for the job I’m going to do in Afghanistan without my industry experience and understanding.’

Colin will report for Duty in later this month, returning to his ‘other’ job in Spring next year.
