A recent sale of convertibles by BCA bucked all the current doom and gloom, by achieving some excellent results.

What’s more, buyers were out in force for the sale in June, contrasting strongly with general evidence that used car values and demand are falling.

With over 100 registered buyers in the auction hall, plus a further 47 bidding over the internet via BCA’s Live Online service, there was plenty of demand for the selection of 273 convertibles assembled for the sale. Competitive bidding in the hall, and online, saw 247 cars sold on the day, for a turnover that exceeded £3.3 million.

Strong sellers included a 2004/04 Audi A4 1.8T Sport – its price of £12,150 was 106.1 per cent of CAP clean. There was also a 2005/05 Honda S2000 GT, which achieved £15,600 – 105.7 per cent of CAP – and an 06/55 Mazda MX-5 1.8 that, at £10,150, represented 107.4 per cent of CAP.

Best of the lot, though, was a Mercedes CLK 200 K: the 2005/05 model had 75k on the clock, yet still went for £18,100. That’s 128.3 per cent up on CAP…
