080908chal.jpgGETTING into the contract hire and leasing business, given the increasing numbers of customers drawn to the idea of fixed price motoring?

Then new data from leasing website contracthireandleasing.com will be of interest.

The site has revealed its most popular searches over the last 30 days – and the brand coming out on top? Audi.

Indeed, second most popular individual car of all was the A3, with the A4, A5 and A6 saloon also occupying the top 10.

Mercedes got the bronze medal with its C-Class saloon, while the new CLC grabbed number eight slot.

Surprisingly, BMW didn’t dominate the top 10, but did rack up five models in the top 20. It was the 1-Series that proved most popular, then the 5-Series. The 3-Series? It was there, but the coupe outranked the saloon.

And the most popular car search of all? The VW Golf. And that’s despite the imminent launch of the MkVI version. Despite its success, though, VW didn’t get any other model into the top 20 – not even the perennial fleet favourite, the Passat.

These searches, says the website, comes against a backdrop of renewed interest in leasing and contract hire. ‘There is no doubt that the leasing sector within the UK is alive and performing well’, said Really Good Domains’ marketing manager, Richard Lawton.

‘This is because at a time of economic downturn, car leasing offers many advantages; not least the opportunity to fix the cost of motoring, reduce fuel consumption and secure maintenance costs.’

Simply put, drivers can be level-headed and choose the most economical models they can, yet not be tied in to a long-term eco purchase for when good times (and the renewed lust for fast engines) returns.

Maybe it’s another avenue worth renewed focus within your dealership?
