220708-b-lotus.jpgEVORA it is, then… that’s the name Lotus has chosen for its brand-new Porsche Cayman challenger.

The world’s only mid-engined 2+2 coupe hits showrooms next Spring, but has just made its world debut at the British Motor Show – and it’s not only the name that was revealed.

Lotus also opened the doors for the first time, showing a properly plush cockpit that’s Lotus’ most luxurious ever. High-quality trims abound, and there’s plenty of hi-tech gadgetry, too. It really does move the game on for Lotus.

The Toyota-derived 3.5-litre V6 has been tuned by the firm to produce 276bhp, which they reckon should help it do 170mph, and hit 60 in under 5 seconds. Yet a low kerbweight of 1350kg will help it nudge 30mpg.

Dealers can rest assured that this will also be the most-tested Lotus in the company’s history, too.

The order book is now open, despite there being no guide as to prices. Our guess? We reckon the Cayman-chaser should cost from around £45k. And with Lotus capping production to 2000 cars annually, demand will probably be pretty high…
