Code of Practice live

Time 3:06 pm, June 20, 2008

computer.jpgDEALERS can now subscribe to the new Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair, through an easy-to-use website.

Clicking on http://service.motorindustrycodes.co.uk takes garages to Motor Codes Limited’s on-line process, which will be launched to consumers in August.

This heads-up allows plenty of time to prepare, by describing the process and allowing instant subscription. Over 5500 garages have already said they’d do so since the Office of Fair Trading launched the code to the trade last month. Many more are expected to follow, now the system is live.

‘We are extremely pleased with the commitment made by thousands of garages so far, and have been able to help many of them get things in place prior to the full launch later this summer,’ said Chris Mason, Motor Codes Director.

‘By logging on and subscribing now, individual garages will benefit by having time to familiarise themselves fully with the code workings, and also add to the considerable support of this industry-wide initiative.’

As a further carrot to signing up, businesses will gain access to the dedicated subscriber area of the Code website, giving them all the information they need to prepare for the consumer launch in August.

We’ve already covered the Code in detail on Car Dealer Magazine. Follow the link below to gen up on it, but here’s a summary of what those who sign up will commit to:

• honest and fair services
• open and transparent pricing
• complete work as agreed
• invoices that match quoted prices
• competent and conscientious staff
• a straightforward and swift complaints procedure
