Company of the Year 20092009’s Motor Industry Company of the Year is Mapfre Abraxas, the Institute of Transport Management has announced.

It won, said the ITM, for giving an outstanding contribution to ‘successfully feeding revenue into the automotive sector at dealership level and boosting the productivity of the automotive industry’.

Mapfre Abraxas provides dealers with warranty, payment protection, GAP, tyre and MOT schemes The Spanish-born company trades under the name Mapfre Asistencia in the UK – providing multinational insurance, reinsurance and other services. It was formed in 1989, and is headed by CEO Gregorio Santos.


‘We believe it is important to spread positive messages at this time,’ he said. ‘We have made a considerable effort to do so – mainly focusing on best practices and messages of encouragement to the industry.

This has only been possible because of the commitment and expertise of our staff who are dedicated to making Mapfre Asistencia UK a success. Being recognised as THE elite motor company in the UK is such a great reward for all the hard work.’

Patrick Sheedy from the ITM said: ‘We at the Institute would like to see more businesses following the example set by Mapfre Abraxas, and wholeheartedly recommend the company as a role model.’
