Day of action at dealers?

Time 11:27 am, February 25, 2009

day-of-action-at-vauxhall-and-saab-dealersVAUXHALL and Saab dealers beware – on 26 February, you may see some animosity, due to an European campaign.

The European Metalworkers Federation has called upon employees of GM Europe brands Opel, Vauxhall and Saab to ‘take a day of action’.

Frankfurt will be the centre of the ‘action’, although it is not stated exactly what this will involve. Nonetheless, the EMF has called for participation from European governments, trade unions, employees – and dealers.

The EMF is demanding:
•    EU loan guarantees
•    A search for new partners and investors for GM Europe
•    A new corporate organisation and management structure

It wants these without plant closures or forced redundancies – and with environmentally friendly cars.

The day will probably have little impact here in the UK. But Vauxhall, Chevrolet and Saab dealers may still want to follow proceedings in Frankfurt with interest, just in case any interesting developments are announced…
