porsche diesel cayenne 2009PORSCHE will launch its first ever diesel model in February 2009.

The diesel-engined Cayenne will use a 3.0-litre V6 TDI, producing 240bhp.

Average fuel economy of 30.3mpg will be combined with CO2 emissions of 244g/km. This will ensure it does not sit in the top ‘gas guzzler’ tax band.

This is what led to Porsche do what, a few years ago, it said it never would – produce a diesel model. ‘Changed legal regulations resulting in tax incentives for vehicles with diesel engines,’ said Porsche, is the reason why the Cayenne TDI is here.

The engine is sourced from sister company Audi. It produces 550Nm of torque, and is fitted with a standard Tiptronic S automatic gearbox.

Porsche also promises ‘sporty chassis dynamics… to offer the driving enjoyment that is typical of a Porsche.’

The list price is expected to be upwards of £40,000. Deliveries will start in February, but order books are open now.
