New car CO2 falling

Time 7:27 am, October 17, 2008

11073285.jpgDURING the past year alone, average CO2 emissions from new vehicles sold in the UK have plunged by 14 per cent.

This is a record, and a clear pointer that new car buyers are switching en masse to greener models.

The SMMT data shows that average CO2 emissions are now just over 158g/km of CO2. This is below the key 160g/km barrier that will begin to affect fleets from next year.

It is definitive proof that to sell cars, you must be focusing on greener, more economical models. The situation will only harden further, too, when next March’s VED changes come into force.

Dealers can, in short, simply not afford to be cynical about greener cars anymore. They are the in-demand new cars people are driving into.
