Official: Skoda is fleet

Time 8:15 am, November 3, 2008

SEPTEMBER saw Skoda sell more cars to the fleet sector than to retail customers.

This means the Czech maker is officially a ‘fleet’ brand.

Sales to fleets saw an increase of over 12 per cent, in a sector that declined by more than 3 per cent. This pushed the brand’s fleet sector share up to 1.8 per cent.

It was also responsible for an overall increase in Skoda’s market share, to 1.8 per cent in all. That was from the registration of over 5000 vehicles.

Head of business sales at Skoda UK, Martin Burke, said: ‘The low running costs and high residual values of Skoda vehicles are obviously appealing to cost-conscious fleet operators.

‘We expect to continue our success in the fleet market with the launch of the new Superb, which offers competitive emissions and tax rates, low whole life costs and high residual values at an affordable list price.’

The news marks a significant step for Skoda, which is becoming a key player in the UK car market. It has high hopes for the new Superb – and, now it’s set out its stall on the high-volume fleet sector, you can expect to be hearing plenty more from the brand in the future…
