RENAULT have announced a spicy version of the all-new Laguna – the 205bhp GT. Th220208ren.jpge Laguna will be available in hatch and tourer body styles and will boast an active drive chassis and four-wheel steering.

As well as the 205bhp 2.0-litre 16v unit they’ll be an equally sporty 2.0-litre diesel powerplant. The derv drinker offers 180bhp and peak torque of 400Nm.

There are no claims yet as to the 0-60mph dash or top speeds, but there is news on the plush cabins. Embossed leather and alcantara sports seats, aluminium pedals and gear knob as GT steering wheel give the cars a sporting feel.

Outside, lateral air intakes, larger front grille, 18-inch alloys and smoked rear light clusters mark out the new GT model from the range. The headlights also get a black background for a menacing look.

The Laguna GT will be unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. Pricing, specification and technical information will be revealed nearer to the UK launch in April 2008.
