Vauxhall tops charts

Time 2:40 pm, March 5, 2009

insigniaVAUXHALL is the leading brand for new car sales, according to sales figures which were released on Thursday.

For the second time in three months, the marque topped the charts recording a total of 9,372 vehicles.

The latest SMMT figures show four Vauxhall models – Corsa, Astra, Insignia and Zafira – featured in the UK’s top 10 best-selling cars, with the Corsa proving the most popular with 2,856 sales.

Vauxhall’s 2009 European Car of the Year, the Insignia, is also starting to make an impact in the sales charts after receiving its dealer launch just seven weeks ago.

In what is traditionally one of the quietest months of the year for car sales, 1,247 Insignias were registered, bringing the total for the model this year to 3,523.

Vauxhall has now received more than 15,000 orders for the Insignia, accounting for half of its sales projection this year.

‘This is proof, if proof were needed, that the Vauxhall brand is as strong as ever in the British car market, and we’re looking forward to a busy March now that the new ‘09’ plate is with us,’ said Andy Gilson, Vauxhall’s marketing director.
