SAAB boss Jan Ake Jonsson believes the maker filing for ‘reorgnainsation’ could be a positive move.

In a revealing video interview released by the manufacturer the Swedish firm’s chief is quizzed about what the news means for dealers, suppliers and staff.

saab‘Making Saab independent is a positive move for Sweden,’ says the boss. ‘Local suppliers and engineering jobs will benefit.’

The board of the Swedish carmaker – owned by troubled US giant General Motors – filed for the protection from its creditors after a meeting on Thursday.

The ‘reorganisation’ procedure in Sweden is said to be akin to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US allowing the firm to restructure.

The boss is quizzed on a range of issues including the amount of investment needed to keep Saab going, the product plans in the pipeline and how self-sufficient Saab will be from General Motors.
