A Bentley Flying Spur formerly owned by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has gone up for sale at a prestige car dealership for £125,000.

The luxury saloon, which has covered just 7,000 miles, is being offered by Portland Autos in Bawtry, near Doncaster, and is advertised as an ‘ex-royal family car’.

The Bentley was reportedly bought new for around £220,000 six years ago and was used by Mountbatten-Windsor while he was Duke of York.

It was seen carrying a personalised ‘DOY’ registration and was driven by him to the funeral of his father, Prince Philip, in 2021, as well as to his granddaughter’s christening the following year.

However, Portland Autos owner Clive Watson said the dealership did not know about the car’s royal connection when it initially bought it.

He told The Times: ‘We found it had a very strange service history so made some inquiries and realised it was a royal household car, and eventually we put two and two together and worked it all out.

‘We didn’t buy the car from the royal household directly, it came through a third party, but the fact that it was owned by a royal is likely to help sell it as it is both something of interest about the car and it means it will have been incredibly well cared for.

He added: ‘The Bentley is beautiful, in flawless condition and has just 7,000 miles on it.’

The Flying Spur is understood to have passed through a specialist Bentley dealership before being acquired by Portland Autos, and its former ‘DOY’ personalised registration is no longer fitted to the car.

Finished in Barnato Green, the Bentley features a cream leather and walnut interior, panoramic sunroof, heated and massaging seats and a Breitling dashboard clock.

The colour takes its name from British aviator Diana Barnato Walker, daughter of former Bentley chairman Woolf Barnato, and was also famously favoured by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Portland Autos has been operating since 1983 and Watson now runs the business alongside his two sons.

Watson added that the dealership had previously handled a number of cars with royal connections.

‘The royal households generally take very good care of the cars and are easy to deal with,’ he told the Times. ‘Much better than footballers, anyway.’
