Autotrader’s apps recorded their highest ever month of traffic, with the service attracting 3.7 million active users in May.

The automotive marketplace says it remains ‘substantially ahead of the market on a sustained basis’, with iOS alone accounting for a record 2.6 million active users last month.

Autotrader says the milestone underlines its position as the UK’s largest automotive marketplace, with its mobile apps now attracting an average of three million active users per month.

That figure makes Autotrader’s app roughly six times bigger than its nearest rivals, including the likes of Cazoo.

Around half of all traffic to Autotrader now comes through its mobile apps, with downloads and reinstalls topping 280,000 in May alone.

Going forward, the firm is keen to keep improving the app, with updates includin new AI-powered lifestyle search categories, enhanced vehicle imagery and improved photo optimisation tools for retailers, all set to be introduced this month.

Rox Nejad, head of brand at Autotrader, said: ‘Our focus has always been on building deep consumer trust and removing the friction from the car-buying process.

‘While initial app discovery and download momentum are important indicators of market health, the true metric of long-term value for our retail partners is sustained, active engagement throughout the consumer’s entire purchase journey.

‘The fact that the Autotrader app is now embedded in the daily buying habits of millions of users is a testament to that trust.

‘By continually investing in our brand presence, our marketing platforms, and our user experience, we ensure that our partners’ stock is consistently positioned in front of the largest, most exclusive, and highest-intent audience in the UK.’
