A banned driver who stole a Volkswagen Golf GTI worth almost £12,000 from a used car dealership before driving dangerously through Oldham has been jailed.
Aaron McKenna, 23 of Ridgway Street, Manchester, stole the vehicle from MK Autos in Failsworth on July 15 before getting behind the wheel despite already being disqualified from driving.
After taking the car from the used car dealership, the 23-year-old drove through Oldham and was ordered to stop by a police officer on Frederick Street.
McKenna failed to comply with the officer’s instruction and instead continued driving through the borough, according to the Oldham Times.
His driving was described as dangerous as he travelled along a number of roads, including Manchester Street, Chamber Road, Chapel Road and Limeside Road.
McKenna was subsequently charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and failing to stop when required.
He appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court on August 13, having previously pleaded guilty to all four offences.
The court sentenced McKenna to 18 months in prison.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI stolen from MK Autos was said to be worth almost £12,000.
