Big Motoring World is set to open its 12th used car supermarket after acquiring an 11-acre site in Coventry, which will create more than 100 jobs.

Car Dealer exclusively reported in September that the used car giant was eyeing up the former CarStore site and a deal has now been confirmed.

The firm has snapped up the brownfield site on Old Church Road, which has been vacant for more than three years, with plans to open the new operation in the first quarter of 2027.

The dealership will have capacity for more than 550 used vehicles, making it one of the largest used car retail sites in the Midlands.

At least 30% of the stock will be electric, as Big Motoring World looks to build on its position as one of the country’s largest used EV retailers.

The expansion comes just weeks after the group revealed that its annual turnover had exceeded £1bn for the first time in 2025.

The business has also reported record quarterly sales in the third quarter of 2026 and is targeting more than 70,000 vehicle sales this year – almost double its 2023 volumes.

Bosses say the Coventry site will be accessible to more than two million potential customers within a 60-minute drive.

Once fully operational, the dealership will employ more than 100 people across sales, aftersales, administration, finance, vehicle preparation, logistics and customer support.

Big Motoring World currently has more than 10,000 used vehicles available across its network, with many ready to be driven away on the same day.

Electric vehicles accounted for 20% of the group’s total sales between July and September this year, with the new Coventry site set to carry a higher proportion of EV stock.

The supermarket will also operate under the group’s RAC Approved Dealer partnership, with vehicles prepared at one of its six nationwide preparation centres.

Laurence Vaughan, CEO of Big Motoring World, said: ‘The launch of our new Coventry site becomes a key facet in our growth strategy and will deliver significant earnings growth and shareholder value in the years ahead.

‘Our new management team has achieved a great deal in the last two and a half years. We have more than doubled the size of the business and its trading profits, while introducing a much more sophisticated data-led business model that places the customer at the heart of what we do.’

Vaughan also highlighted changes to the company’s workforce and senior management, saying staff turnover had almost halved despite an increase in overall headcount.

He added: ‘This has been a challenging journey that has necessitated many difficult decisions, not least the overhaul of our senior leadership team to ensure our future is being shaped by people whose values are aligned with our vision.

‘We’re committed to conducting business in a way every colleague can be proud of, and we will never shy away from doing the right thing for all stakeholders.’
