Big Motoring World looks set to add another location to its network of used car supermarket sites, amid claims the firm has set its sights on a former CarStore lot.
Multiple sources have told Car Dealer over the weekend that the firm is eyeing up a move for the former site of CarStore Coventry.
The location, on Old Church Road, was was operated under the CarStore brand between June 2017 and August 2024, although it has not been used since owners Lithia axed the brand.
Insiders say the deal has being led by Big Motoring World CEO Laurence Vaughan, who has previously overseen the acquisition of a number of ex-CarShop sites from his former employer, Sytner.
Sources close to ousted Big Motoring World boss, Peter Waddell, have told Car Dealer that the Scot has been ‘left in the dark’ over the deal, despite remaining the firm’s largest shareholder.
When approached by Car Dealer, Big Motoring World would not comment directly on the Coventry rumours, but said it ‘continues to evaluate opportunities to expand its reach in key locations’.
A spokesman said: ‘Big Motoring World has seen record growth in 2026 and has expanded its national footprint to 11 sites, with the addition of the facility in Warrington in May.
‘As part of its ongoing growth strategy, Big Motoring World continues to evaluate opportunities to expand its reach in key locations across the UK.
‘We are not in a position to announce any new site openings at this time.’
The latest news comes just weeks after Vaughan was replaced as chairman of Big Motoring World by Fraser Pearce – an expert in complex restructuring cases.
On the same day, director Reza Fardad departed the group altogether, after a judge ruled he had breached his duties as a director, in his handling of Waddell’s removal.
