Chorley Group has become the dealership behind a major milestone in Nissan’s UK electric vehicle journey – handing over the manufacturer’s 100,000th EV sold in Britain.

The landmark vehicle, an electric Nissan Micra finished in Rebel Red, was delivered to Lancashire couple Ron and Gillian Ainsworth by Chorley Nissan.

The sale marks 15 years since Nissan launched the original Leaf in the UK, with the Japanese manufacturer now reaching six-figure electric vehicle sales across Britain.

Adam Gradwell, client experience specialist at Chorley Nissan, handed over the keys to the couple and said the dealership was proud to have played its part in the landmark sale.

He said: ‘We are incredibly proud to be the dealer group that delivered this very special electric vehicle.

‘All-New Micra has proved very popular since its arrival earlier this year.

‘Customers love its sporty styling and fun driving dynamics, and with fuel prices rising significantly this year, the popularity of EVs has increased rapidly.’

The electric Micra is one of three passenger EVs now offered by Nissan alongside the Ariya and the new third-generation Leaf, which arrives in UK showrooms later this summer.

Nissan managing director James Taylor said reaching 100,000 UK EV sales demonstrated the company’s long-standing commitment to electrification.

He said: ‘We are incredibly proud to have led the way in automotive electrification for 15 years and it’s wonderful to have notched up 100,000 EV sales in the UK.

‘Between the new Micra and Leaf and the just-updated Ariya, plus our two electric LCVs, Nissan has a strong electric line-up, with every model delivering affordability, innovation and everyday practicality.’

The milestone also comes as Nissan continues to expand its UK EV production, with the new Leaf and forthcoming all-electric Juke both set to be built at the firm’s Sunderland plant as part of its EV36Zero manufacturing programme.
