Chery is turning its attention to the used car market with the launch of a manufacturer-backed approved scheme across its entire UK dealer network.

The Chinese brand says the programme has been introduced partly to protect residual values as increasing numbers of its cars begin filtering into the second-hand market.

It comes as Chery’s rapid UK expansion continues, with the firm now claiming 100 retail sites little more than a year after arriving in Britain.

The manufacturer says that footprint puts 78% of the population within a 30-minute drive of a Chery dealership.

Cars entering the approved used scheme must meet limits on age, mileage and condition, as well as having a full Chery service history.

They will also be put through a 120-plus point inspection and road test before being offered for sale.

Buyers will receive at least a two-year warranty, while any remaining balance of Chery’s seven-year/100,000-mile new car warranty will stay with the vehicle.

Super Hybrid models will additionally come with a battery health certificate.

Chery is also offering a 30-day or 1,000-mile exchange policy, alongside £350 excess cover and finance options.

Farrell Hsu, managing director of Chery UK, said the used car scheme was the next step as the brand’s parc grows.

He said: ‘As more new Chery vehicles hit the road, launching a manufacturer-backed Approved Used Programme is the natural next step because it makes it simple for customers to find the best pre-owned examples.

‘The very high standards we set offer customers the confidence and reassurance they need, and provide our retailers with a strong platform for building long-term customer satisfaction and loyalty.’

The scheme covers Chery’s current Tiggo 4, 7, 8 and 9 ranges, with stock listed through a dedicated approved used website.
