Two men have been jailed after their dangerous driving killed a mother and her four-year-old daughter outside Vertu Jaguar Leeds.
Hardeep Bhachu, 29, and Jasskamal Riyat, 37, have been sentenced to a combined 28 years behind bars after the deaths of Justyna Hulboj, 27, and her daughter Lena Czepczor.
The collision, which happened shortly after 8.30am on January 16, 2023, saw Bhachu lose control of his vehicle and strike the two pedestrians, who were on the school run at the time.
The vehicle then crashed into the car dealership wall before both victims died at the scene.
CCTV and dashcam footage showed Riyat had been racing Bhachu immediately before the collision.
Bhachu, of Grant Row, Adel, Leeds, pleaded guilty to causing deaths dangerous driving in June 2024 but Riyat, of Buckstone Avenue, Moortown, Leeds, denied the charges before being found guilty at trial.
Both men yesterday (Oct 26) appeared at Leeds Crown Court for sentencing. The judge ordered that Bhachu spend 12 years behind bars, while Riyat was sentenced to 16.
Both men were given six-year driving bans and will be made to take an extended driving test.
Reacting to the sentences, detective inspector Paul Conroy, of West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: ‘A woman and her young daughter have died because of the actions of these men, and I know no sentence will ever feel enough to compensate for the lives that have been lost.
‘This sentencing hearing though does mark the end of a long criminal justice process for Justyna and Lena’s family.
‘It is over two years since Bhachu admitted his part in this tragic incident and I know that the wait for justice has taken its toll. My thoughts are firmly with them today.’

‘My whole world collapsed in one second’
Following the sentences being handed down, an emotional statement was issued from the family.
The fiancee and father of the victims – who did not wish to be named – said the situation was a ‘nightmare will last for the rest of my life’.
‘Before 16 January 2023, my life was a fulfilment of my deepest dreams,’ he said. ‘I had everything that was most important in life. I had a good job, a wonderful fiancee, Justyna and a wonderful daughter, Lena.
‘Unfortunately, on the morning of January 16, when I said goodbye to my family with the words “I love you”, I didn’t know that it would be the last time I saw them.
‘When I was informed about their deaths, my whole world collapsed in one second.
‘Every day I feel a huge void after their departure, and I imagine what it would be like if they were still alive. We had so many plans and dreams and in one moment it all ended.
‘I know that I will have to live with the burden of losing the two most important people in my life for the rest of my life.
‘I would like to live normally again without all this, but I know that it is no longer possible, no one will bring back the lives of my fiancee and my daughter. This nightmare will last for the rest of my life.
‘My dream was to have a wonderful family, and I must say that it came true for a short while, but that was taken away from me on the 16th of January.
‘Unfortunately, all that remains are wonderful memories and a constant fight for the next day, which is not easy.’
