Chinese car makers are pulling out all the stops to attract UK customers, offering everything from interest-free finance and deposit contributions to eight-year warranties, complimentary servicing and free insurance.

While competitive prices and generous equipment levels have helped newer brands establish themselves in the UK, their growing range of ownership incentives is giving dealers even more to offer customers considering a new car.

For buyers weighing up a used vehicle against a brand-new alternative, the combination of low monthly payments, lengthy warranties and years of additional benefits could make the decision considerably more difficult.

And with established manufacturers already offering some similar benefits, the latest deals are adding another dimension to the competition for customers across the UK car market.

Eight-year warranties and free servicing

Long warranties are becoming a familiar feature of Chinese manufacturers’ UK offerings, with several brands providing considerably more cover than the three years traditionally offered by many established manufacturers.

Geely provides an eight-year/125,000-mile warranty on its new vehicles, while Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo and Changan offer seven years or 100,000 miles of cover. MG also provides a seven-year warranty across its range.

However, one of the most comprehensive packages comes from GAC-owned Aion, which has introduced its Great 8 Promise with the V electric SUV and new UT hatchback.

Alongside an eight-year vehicle warranty, customers receive eight years of complimentary routine servicing, roadside assistance and MOT testing when due. The benefits are transferable between owners, with Aion estimating that the package could save customers more than £2,900 over the eight-year period.

Long warranties are certainly not exclusive to Chinese manufacturers, however. South Korean brand Kia has offered a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty across its range for years, with the remaining cover transferable to subsequent owners.

Peugeot also offers up to eight years or 100,000 miles of cover on eligible vehicles through its Peugeot Care programme, although the additional protection beyond the initial three-year warranty is activated through qualifying servicing at participating dealers.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen and Skoda provide three years of standard new-car cover, with a 60,000-mile limit applying in the final year.

Free insurance and breakdown cover

Insurance is another area where Chinese manufacturers are introducing additional incentives to make buying a new car more attractive.

The latest example comes from LEPAS, which has announced that eligible customers purchasing its new L8 plug-in hybrid SUV will receive 30 days of complimentary drive-away insurance if they activate the cover by October 31.

The Car Care Plan-backed promotion also includes a £350 excess voucher and the option of a free, no-obligation annual insurance quotation, with customers given a full month to shop around for a longer-term policy.

Meanwhile, Chery offers up to five days of complimentary drive-away insurance and a £350 excess-return voucher with new and used vehicles. The voucher can reimburse customers for up to £350 of their insurance excess following a qualifying claim, regardless of which insurer they use.

Omoda and Jaecoo also advertise complimentary drive-away insurance and excess-return vouchers, with the latter offering the £350 benefit to eligible customers purchasing a new or used vehicle or having their car serviced at an approved dealer.

However, free drive-away insurance is already available from established manufacturers, including BMW, which offers five days of complimentary cover on qualifying new and used cars.

Breakdown assistance is also being used to encourage customers to return to authorised workshops.

Chery provides 12 months of roadside assistance with new vehicles, with the opportunity to renew the cover for another year following scheduled servicing at an authorised dealership, potentially extending the benefit to seven years.

MG operates a similar arrangement, providing an initial year of assistance and offering further annual renewals when customers have their cars serviced through its dealer network.

Interest-free finance and thousands of pounds in incentives

Alongside extended warranties and ownership benefits, Chinese manufacturers are offering increasingly competitive finance deals to encourage customers to try something new.

MG is advertising 0% APR representative PCP finance with no minimum deposit on selected models, including its MG4 EV and HS Plug-in Hybrid, while Chery is offering similar deposit-free deals on its Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 plug-in hybrids.

Changan is offering interest-free PCP finance with a £3,000 deposit contribution on its Deepal S07 electric SUV, while Aion is combining its eight-year ownership package with 0% APR representative PCP finance on the V, available from £449 a month with no customer deposit.

Meanwhile, BYD, Geely, Omoda and Jaecoo are also offering interest-free finance on selected models, with some combining the deals with additional manufacturer contributions, discounts and test-drive incentives.

The offers vary in their deposit requirements, agreement lengths and optional final payments, but with so many manufacturers offering competitive finance alongside lengthy warranties and other ownership benefits, customers have plenty of reasons to consider a Chinese brand when choosing their next car.

For dealers, the packages provide another way to attract buyers who might otherwise have opted for a more familiar manufacturer or a used vehicle.
