Marshall Motor Group is closing its Hyundai dealership in Hereford today and will end new and used Mercedes-Benz sales from its Blackburn site later this year as it continues to reshape its dealer network.
The group confirmed Marshall Hyundai Hereford, on Ross Road in Callow, will close completely today (Friday, August 28) following what it described as a ‘strategic review’ of its representation for the Korean brand in Herefordshire.
Its remaining Hyundai businesses in Ashford, Canterbury, Gatwick, Gloucester, Maidstone and Worcester are unaffected, with customers in the Hereford area being directed principally towards its Gloucester and Worcester dealerships for sales and aftersales work.
The closure means servicing, warranty repairs and MOT work will also cease at the Hereford workshop, although existing Marshall service plans can continue to be used across the wider dealer group and Hyundai plans remain valid elsewhere in the manufacturer’s network.
Meanwhile, Marshall is also scaling back its Mercedes-Benz operation in Blackburn, although that dealership will not close completely.
From October 1, all new and used car sales currently handled from the Whitebirk Drive showroom will move to Marshall Mercedes-Benz of Preston following a separate review of the group’s Mercedes-Benz sales representation in Lancashire.
The Blackburn site will remain a Mercedes-Benz aftersales centre, with servicing, warranty work, MOTs, repairs, parts and body repairs continuing as normal.
Customers who already have vehicles on order through Blackburn will be contacted individually by Marshall, with the dealer saying orders will not be cancelled and arrangements for handover will be agreed as part of the switch to Preston.
It has not been confirmed how many jobs will be affected by either change. Car Dealer has approached Marshall for comment.
The two announcements are the latest changes to Marshall’s sizeable UK estate, which currently includes more than 130 locations representing more than 25 brands.
Earlier this year the group closed its Seat and Cupra operation in Cambridge, as well as SMART repair centres in Cambridge and Peterborough and its Jaguar Land Rover authorised repairer in Peterborough, as part of what it called regional restructuring.
However, Marshall has also continued to invest in new and expanding franchises, recently opening Lamborghini Poole and announcing that it will represent incoming Chery-owned brand Lepas from five UK showrooms.
Announcing the Lepas deal, Marshall managing director Trevor Fussey said the group was continuing its focus on ‘innovation and sustainability’, with the locations of the five new dealerships still to be revealed.
