Mazda has introduced a new incentive programme for showroom staff as it targets a major boom in accessory sales.
The Japanese firm wants to increase sales of floor mats, boot liners, mud flaps, roof boxes, tow bars and bicycle carriers by up to 60% and has now announced it will be funding rewards for staff who push the items.
Bosses say the programme is aimed at helping retailers generate additional aftersales profitability, with September expected to be a particularly important month, following yesterday’s new plate day.
Confirming the initiative, Mazda Motors UK managing director Jeremy Thomson said: ‘We have identified accessory sales as a strategic opportunity for our dealer partners to achieve incremental increases in aftersales profitability, especially following the launch of the new 76-plate.
‘One of Mazda’s best kept secrets is our comprehensive range of accessories, with many items costing less than the generic equivalents sold by car accessory retailers. Our accessories have the added attractions of being designed specifically for Mazda models and having longer warranties than those offered by third parties.
‘This initiative highlights the pivotal role played by sales staff when selling new and used vehicles. We are encouraging them to think laterally and talk to customers to better understand their lifestyle needs and make accessory suggestions when appropriate.’
It is hoped that the increase will provide dealers with a stronger source of profit as Mazda expands its model range.
Car Dealer reported last week that the brand is also targeting a major rise in new car sales as it prepares for the arrival of thee new models – the CX-5, the 6e and the CX-6e.
The outfit is also looking to grow its dealer network with new representation being sought in Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Plymouth and Portsmouth
Thomson added: ‘We believe with accessories now being actively promoted by showroom teams we will see a 60% increase in sales by the end of the year, giving our dealer partners a sound foundation to further boost their profitability as they start selling three new models – the Mazda CX-5, Mazda 6e and Mazda CX-6e.’
