KEVIN Gaskell and son Matt have set a world record – the first father and son team to reach the South Pole unaided!
The EurotaxGlass’s president is celebrating in the South Pole right now, after completing the incredible epic.
Matt is also thought to be the youngest person ever to reach the South Pole unaided, earning the family yet another unofficial world record!
Gaskell revealed at the Driving Business conference, which Car Dealer attended, that he would be undertaking the trip. But few fully appreciated the enormity of the task which he has successfully completed.
The unbelievable 186 mile trip will raise over £40,000 for a cancer treatment centre at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in North Wales.
It wasn’t easy, though. The team reports it has had to struggle through white out conditions. Most of them have also suffered from altitude sickness, too. Now, though, say the latest reports, everyone is fine.
‘We are going to have a look/walk/tour round the South Pole Station then we will get some food and a cup of tea then rest for the night,’ said the update on the site.
Gaskell has, in the past, also conquered the other end of the planet. He raised £80,000 by walking to the North Pole.
Car Dealer bows down in complete respect to the unbelievable Gaskell, his son Matt and the rest of the South Pole team. We spoke to him at the Conference back in November, where he remained as genial as ever. Yet now, he is a World Record holder!
Here’s hoping Kevin reaches his fundraising total…
