Today is A-Level results day which can only mean one thing – Yes, Jeremy Clarkson has posted his results on X.
We all know the shtick by now: ‘Don’t worry if your A level results are a bit disappointing. I got a C and two Us and now I have a man to cut my toenails and feed me Ferrero Rocher.’ Thanks Jeremy, we get it!
However, it is not just former Top Gear hosts who went on to reach the top despite failing in their exams – the motor trade also has its fair share of success stories too.
One of them is Farhad Tailor, founder of used car business V12 Sports & Classics, who admits education came second for him as a youngster.
‘I wasn’t interested in school,’ he told Car Dealer. ‘I spent most of my time on the market with my dad.
‘I think I got Us pretty much all the way through to be honest with you!’

But while Tailor might not have been interested in the classroom, he had a love of the motor trade from an early age.
He says selling cars was all he wanted to do from the age of eight, before going on to sell his first car at just 13
His passion for buying and selling cars continued throughout his teenage years, becoming a regular reader of Autotrader in the process, but it was the world of banking, and not cars, where Tailor got his first taste of employment.
After leaving school, he got a job working as an apprentice financial adviser for Lloyds TSB but he kept on selling cars on the side.
He eventually turned his back on the world of banking and eventually set up V12 Sports & Classics.
Having began with Tailor selling cars from his home and garden, the business has now grown into a major used car supermarket group, selling upwards of 1,400 vehicles a month.
It is now a family affair too, with Tailor’s own children following him into the motor trade.
He told Car Dealer: ‘It’s the best trade out there. My two children have joined the business. My lad’s 16 and my daughter’s 18.
‘She started as a junior apprentice two years ago and she’s top in the group in terms of sales so far this month. She’ll probably earn about £3,500.
‘My lad is only 16. He did a lot of hours last month, but he earned £2,500 as well.
‘If anybody’s focused and determined and wants to put the hard work in, it’s one of the best trades out there.’
