Chinese manufacturer Lepas is wasting no time in building its UK product line-up as it prepares to launch its new electric SUV, the L6.
The newcomer will join the L8 plug-in hybrid as the second model in the brand’s range, with Lepas planning to put the car on sale in the final quarter of this year.
It comes as the Chinese brand targets ‘rapid’ UK growth, having set its sights on a 2% market share within a year.
The brand is the latest to launch under the wider Chery umbrella, joining fellow marques including Jaecoo and Omoda.
Bosses recently told Car Dealer that they are not ‘too worried’ about cannibalisation from other Chery-group cars, stating that ‘the area is big enough to avoid internal substitution’.
The L6 is powered by a 65kWh battery, giving it a claimed range of up to 279 miles.
It can accept charging speeds of up to 120kW, with Lepas claiming a 10 to 80 per cent charge can be completed in around 25 minutes.
Measuring just over 4.5 metres long and 1.8 metres wide, the L6 is similar in size to models such as the Kia Sportage and BMW iX1.
Standard equipment will include 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED headlights and power-folding door mirrors.
Inside, the L6 takes design cues from the larger L8, with a 13.2-inch central ‘waterfall’ infotainment display.
A panoramic sunroof will also be fitted as standard, while other equipment includes dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel and keyless entry.
The L6 has a 410-litre boot, increasing to 1,334 litres with the rear seats folded. Lepas also says a further 99 litres of storage is available beneath the boot floor.
UK pricing is yet to be confirmed but the model is expected to arrive in the final months of this year.
