Arnold Clark has completed its acquisition of family-run Glasgow car dealership W Livingstone Ltd.

The deal sees the Car Dealer Top 100 leader take control of the firm’s SEAT and CUPRA dealership in Uddingston, bringing an end to more than six decades of family ownership.

Car Dealer first revealed last month that a deal was in the works after seeing a leaked memo sent to staff, which said Arnold Clark was expected to take over the business in August.

The acquisition has now been confirmed, with the site at 34 New Edinburgh Road renamed Arnold Clark Uddingston SEAT/CUPRA.

W Livingstone had been in business for around 65 years and remained in the same family for three generations.

The dealership will continue to represent SEAT and CUPRA under its new ownership, with the site also including a bodyshop and petrol station.

Arnold Clark said existing employees have joined the group ‘where possible’ in a bid to provide continuity for customers.

The takeover is the latest in a string of expansion moves by Arnold Clark this year.

In May, the group entered Wales for the first time after taking over a former Fordthorne site in Cardiff, while it has also been rapidly adding new Chinese franchises to its portfolio.

It has signed up with Lepas, expanded its Geely representation into Scotland and, just last week, announced the opening of five additional Leapmotor showrooms north of the border.

The latest acquisition also strengthens Arnold Clark’s existing relationship with Volkswagen Group brands SEAT and CUPRA.

Callum Rankin, group brand director at Arnold Clark, said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome the team from W Livingstone Ltd Glasgow SEAT/CUPRA to the Arnold Clark family.

‘This acquisition is an exciting step and further strengthens our relationship with both SEAT and CUPRA.

‘We look forward to welcoming customers to the branch, where they can expect the high levels of customer experience, choice and value that Arnold Clark is known for.’

Arnold Clark remains the most profitable dealer group in the Car Dealer Top 100 and recently reported pre-tax profits of £112.5m.

The Glasgow-headquartered business has around 200 branches nationwide and says it sells more than 200,000 cars every year.
