Leeds-based dealer group Luscombe Motors has rewarded every member of staff with an equal share of a £170,000 bonus pot after delivering a record-breaking financial year.
The family-owned retailer said the profit share payment was made following its strongest-ever trading performance in the year to May 31, 2026, with every employee receiving the same bonus regardless of their role or seniority.
Chairman Robin Luscombe said the scheme reflected the company’s belief that every member of staff contributes to the success of the business.
‘This business has never been about one person, he said.
‘Every vehicle we sell, every service we complete, every part we deliver and every customer we look after relies on people working together.
‘We wanted our profit share scheme to reflect that philosophy, because everyone contributes to our success and everyone deserves to share in it.
‘We firmly believe that if you look after your staff, they will look after your customers. That has always been our approach and I believe it is one of the main reasons we continue to grow.’
Robin Luscombe was handed a Lifetime Achievement honour at the 2023 Used Car Awards for his services to the motor trade.
This year’s payment follows another strong year for the family-owned dealer, which has continued to invest heavily in its Leeds headquarters while growing its franchise operation.
The latest announcement builds on another record financial performance. Accounts previously reported by Car Dealer showed Luscombe Motors increased turnover to £64.7m in the year to May 31, 2025, while pre-tax profit more than doubled from £1.1m to £2.6m.
Operating profit also climbed from £1.2m to £2.4m as strong MG retail and fleet sales helped boost margins.
At the time, Luscombe said: ‘It goes to prove you don’t need a market area and a number of sites to operate successfully.
‘But tight control, nimble management and decision making, and a superbly motivated team can massively out perform the bigger groups.’
Since then, the business has continued to expand, opening a new 400sqm Omoda Jaecoo showroom, refurbished to the manufacturer’s latest corporate standards, while also completing a major refurbishment of its 1,000sqm workshop and adding a second MOT testing lane.
It has also recruited additional technicians and says it now employs more manufacturer-trained technicians than at any point in its history.
The business is also expecting further growth in its trade parts operation following the addition of Omoda Jaecoo and the return of Mitsubishi parts support.
Luscombe, who started his career as a parts apprentice 49 years ago, said: ‘Parts have always been in my DNA.
‘It’s where I started, and I still understand how important it is for independent garages to receive the right parts quickly, backed up by knowledgeable people and excellent service. We see huge opportunities to grow that side of the business over the next few years.’
Looking ahead, the dealer group expects to employ more than 100 people, sell around 5,000 new and used vehicles, generate more than £4m in parts sales and achieve annual turnover in excess of £100m.
Despite its scale, Luscombe Motors continues to operate from a single three-acre site in Leeds rather than expanding through multiple dealership locations.
Luscombe added: ‘People often ask why we haven’t opened more dealerships. The answer is simple. We believe concentrating our investment on one site allows us to provide a better experience for our customers, better opportunities for our staff and stronger support for our manufacturer partners.
‘Our size gives us the buying power and expertise of a much larger organisation, while remaining a family business where people know each other, work together and genuinely care about the customer experience.
‘We believe that combination is quite unique, and it continues to drive our success.’
