A family-run car dealership in Morecambe is to close its doors for good after its owners failed to find a new buyer for the site.
Dealer group DSG has been serving customers in the North West for more six decades but the firm’s Morecambe showroom is now set to cease trading.
The decision comes after a hunt for a new operator for the dealership failed to come off, meaning the site will officially close its doors on September 30.
The Lancaster Guardian reports that some members of the DSG Morecambe team have been with the business for decades, with the dealer group staying in the same family for more than 60 years.
In that time, the site previously had a franchise agreement with Hyundai before switching to Renault and Dacia in more recent years.
A DSG spokesman said the business had spent considerable time looking at options for another company to take over the site, with the aim of protecting the dealership and retaining its staff.
‘This has been an extremely difficult decision and we have spent considerable time exploring opportunities for another company to take the business forward,’ the spokesman said.
‘Sadly, despite these efforts, we have not been able to find a suitable buyer.’
The company said Morecambe had been an important part of DSG for many years and acknowledged that the closure would be disappointing for employees, customers and suppliers.
Bosses thanked its Morecambe team for their ‘dedication, loyalty and care’, as well as customers and suppliers who had supported the site over the years.
The business will continue operating from its Barrow-in-Furness premises, which will remain an official Renault and Dacia Authorised Repairer.
DSG has urged Morecambe customers to contact its Barrow operation for servicing, repairs and vehicle enquiries after the closure.
