A family-run VW dealership has ceased trading after collapsing into administration – leaving staff out of work just weeks before Christmas.

Dealer group Hayselden has ended operations at its VW and Skoda showrooms in Doncaster with immediate effect, following a difficult period.

Stunned staff were only made aware of the decision on Friday (Dec 5) with employees saying that they have been ‘done over’ by the decision.

The move means that employees are now on the hunt for new positions, less than three weeks away from Christmas.

One employee told the Doncaster Free Press: ‘All the staff are gutted – everyone made redundant just before Christmas.

‘People have really been done over – some have more than 40 years’ service and have been treated badly.’

According to local reports, a sign has now been placed on the door of the VW site, in which Hayseldon confirms: ‘We have now ceased trading.’

Meanwhile, both the VW and Skoda showrooms are now listed as ‘permanently closed’ on Google.

The news has been confirmed by Volkswagen Group, which says it is now working to find a new dealer partner in the area.

A Volkswagen Group UK spokesperson said: ‘Two T Hayselden Ltd Volkswagen Group UK sites in Doncaster are regrettably heading into administration.

‘We have been working closely with T Hayselden for a number of months but it has not been possible to prevent this.

‘We are working at pace to secure a new investor and suitable premises in order to support the Volkswagen and Škoda customers who may be impacted by this.

‘We are unable to comment further on this for the time being but will be focusing on how we can maintain continuity for customers.

‘Alternative sales and servicing sites can be found on the relevant brand’s websites.’

The two Doncaster sites were the last showrooms still being run by Hayselden after the retailer disposed of its Volkswagen dealership in Barnsley earlier this year, although it does retain a bodyshop in Rotherham.

There has been no notice of administration posted on the firm’s Companies House page, which was last updated back in September.

The retailer was founded by Tom Hayselden, 66-years-ago in 1959 before passing onto his son, Mick, in 1989.

Tom and Mick passed away in 2018 and 2024 respectively but the firm remains in the family, with Mark and Melanie Hayselden both listed as active directors.

Car Dealer has been unable to reach Hayselden for comment.
