Mazda is ramping up its efforts to sell more used cars through its franchised dealer network with a new approved scheme.
The Japanese brand is significantly increasing the volume of defleeted Motability and daily rental vehicles it sources for retailers, while also rolling out a new pan-European approved used car programme designed to drive showroom sales and improve dealer profitability.
Mazda says the volume of Motability vehicles it actively repatriates on behalf of dealers has almost doubled over the past two years.
It said acquisitions from rental giant Enterprise have also risen sharply as it looks to improve stock availability across its network.
The move comes as the brand launches Mazda Selected, its new approved used car scheme, with Hendy Mazda Tunbridge Wells becoming the first retailer to go live.
The programme is due to be rolled out across the UK dealer network by the end of the summer, with Britain leading the wider European launch.
Mazda Selected includes a multi-point vehicle inspection, a 12-month unlimited mileage warranty, 12 months’ European roadside assistance, accident aftercare and a £99 refundable online reservation fee.
Alongside the launch, Mazda has increased the amount of used stock flowing back into its retailer network.
The proportion of Motability vehicles sourced for dealers has risen from 24% in 2024 to 42% this year, while the volume of ex-Enterprise daily rental vehicles acquired directly by retailers has increased from 26% to 60% over the same period.
The manufacturer says the strategy is designed to help retailers access more high-quality used stock while increasing both showroom sales and dealer profitability.
Laura Brailey, sales director at Mazda Motors UK, said: ‘Our focus is on helping retailers access more quality stock while giving customers a compelling reason to buy through them.
‘Mazda Selected provides that reassurance through rigorous vehicle preparation standards and a comprehensive ownership package.
‘The increased availability of end-of-contract Motability vehicles will help retailers secure the stock they need. We have to ensure our dealer network can retain as much of this stock as possible.
‘Ultimately our ambition is to strengthen the entire ownership journey, whether a customer is purchasing a brand-new Mazda or choosing one of our approved used vehicles.
‘The profitability of our retailers is paramount, which is why we have a programme to grow the number of retail showroom units sold through each site, and used cars are a key part of that ambition.’
The move reflects a growing focus among manufacturers on strengthening approved used programmes and keeping more ex-fleet and end-of-contract vehicles within their franchised dealer networks.
