Buying quality stock directly from private motorists has become one of the most effective ways for dealers to fill their forecourts.

The best consumer-to-trade platforms make the whole process quick, simple and transparent, helping retailers source the cars they really want.

Taking the highly commended gongs this year are Carwow and Cars Bought For More.

But taking the title once again is a business that continues to set the standard in this fast-growing sector – Motorway.

‘We’re thrilled to win it again and it’s really important because this is voted for by dealers. Dealers are our customers,’ chief operating officer James Wilson told us.

‘We work really hard to listen to their feedback and continuously improve the platform that we provide to them.

‘I think this is testament to the work many, many teams at Motorway are doing, so we’re really, really pleased to have won it once again.’

Wilson believes the company’s continued success comes down to listening to dealers and making constant improvements to the platform.

‘I think it boils down to listening to our customers, listening to our dealers, understanding where we can get better and really focusing on the things that matter to them,’ he said.

Over the past year, Motorway has introduced a series of enhancements designed to improve every stage of the buying journey.

‘In the last 12 months, we’ve had the most stock we’ve ever had on the platform,’ Wilson said.

‘That’s come about from the fact that we’ve really invested heavily in making the process for our sellers, getting that stock onto the platform, as easy as possible.

‘Then we’ve worked really, really hard to make it easy for our dealers to find the stock that works for their dealership and then improve and make it easy for them once they’ve purchased that stock through the auction in that post-sale experience.

‘So we’ve made improvements in every aspect of the customer experience.’

Wilson said trust remains the foundation of Motorway’s relationship with car dealers.

‘Trust is at the heart of the relationship that we have with our dealer partners, and that’s something we focus on all the time,’ he said.

‘We’ve worked really hard in the last 12 months to improve that experience for sellers.

‘What that means is we get more stock onto the platform, but also better quality vehicle descriptions, which is absolutely essential because that’s how dealers are making the decision whether to bid and then purchase those vehicles.’

He also highlighted the continued success of Motorway Pay, the company’s payment platform.

‘I’m really, really proud of Motorway Pay,’ Wilson said.

‘Last year we completed our £10bn transaction through the platform, which shows how effective it’s been.

‘A big part of that was to make it as simple and as easy as possible and to build trust between our dealers and our sellers.’

Thanking dealers for their support, Wilson added: ‘We’re delighted and thank you to all the dealers that voted for us. We really appreciate it.’
