JLR has broadened its electric Range Rover line-up with launch of a new Sport model.
The British luxury brand only revealed the full-sized Range Rover Electric this summer, but now the EV offering has expanded to the more dynamic Sport version.
Underneath, the Range Rover Sport Electric shares the same underpinnings as petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid models, but uses two electric motors linked to a 118.5kWh battery for a total claimed range of 374 miles.
Rapid charging capability means that the Range Rover Sport Electric can go from 10 to 80 per cent charge in 22 minutes, too, while owners who look to top-up at their property can choose an optional home charger to have installed.
With 542bhp and 850Nm – the most torque of any Range Rover Sport – the new EV will go from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds with Dynamic Launch Mode engaged. It’s the same acceleration time that you’ll get from V8-powered models, too.
There’s a full suite of high-end mechanical features underneath, too, with twin-valve dampers, electronic active roll control and all-wheel-steering equipped to help make the Sport as dynamic as possible.
The Range Rover’s off-road focus has been retained for the new Sport, too, with a claimed 900mm wading depth ensuring that it can tackle very deep water. It can also tackle 45-degree gradients, according to JLR.
The front end design of the car has been aerodynamically optimised and this, along with new alloy wheel designs, which help to add 10 miles of range when travelling at motorway speeds.
The new Range Rover Sport Electric is now on sale, with prices starting from £109,810.
