The Toyota CH-R has been named the most reliable crossover based on claims made to Warranty Solutions Group in a year.

The data from WSG looked at mainstream SUV crossover claims made between May 2025 and April 2026, comparing the claim rate and average claim cost.

The Toyota CH-R recorded a claim rate of just 4.38%, alongside an average repair bill of £481.55. Its claim rate was also incredibly low compared to other crossovers and reinforces Toyota’s reputation for reliability.

The MG ZS was second with a claim rate of 10.24%, while the SEAT Arona placed third at 10.71%.

These two had some of the lowest average claims with only the Citroen C3 beating them at £411.66.

Steph Newbery, group director at Warranty Solutions Group, said: ‘SUV crossovers remain one of the most popular vehicle choices in the UK, but our latest claims data shows there are now very clear differences emerging between the models delivering dependable, lower-risk ownership and those generating significantly higher levels of repair activity.

‘What is particularly interesting is that some of the strongest-performing vehicles are often those with simpler overall engineering and lower levels of complexity, while more advanced vehicles featuring increasingly sophisticated electronics, transmission systems and driver assistance technology are often generating much higher rates of warranty claims.

‘As repair costs, labour rates and vehicle complexity continue to rise, reliability is becoming an even more important consideration for consumers purchasing used SUVs and crossovers.’

WSG also revealed details on the most common faults, with battery-related issues emerging as the single most common claim at 3.34%, followed by coil spring failures at 2.66% and alternator faults at 2.64%.

It said that water pumps (2.53%) and ignition coils (2.25%) also featured heavily within the analysis, and suggests this highlights how a combination of electrical, suspension and cooling system problems continue to drive a significant proportion of warranty repairs across modern SUVs and crossovers.

WSG added that these findings reflect the increasing complexity of modern crossover vehicles, with more electronics, emissions-control systems and connected technology added into everyday models.

Larger mechanical issues were also shown to be the biggest average cost of a claim, cylinder head gasket failures were the highest average bill closely followed by turbochargers at £845.46.

It added that rising labour costs and shortage of technicians have added to the increase in bills, with the average labour rate at £64.34 per hour and £129.43 per claim.
