Mercedes has confirmed the return of a familiar face after former manager Jason Allbutt was named as the brand’s new UK sales director.
Allbutt began his career at Mercedes way back in 1995 before going on to hold a number of senior management positions across finance, sales, product and planning.
He departed the German brand to take over as CEO of Smart back in 2024 but he will now return to oversee Mercedes dealer network from February 1.
Allbutt was previously a key figure in setting up Mercedes’ agency model in 2023 and he has now pledged to work closely with the brand’s retail partners.
He said: ‘It is truly exciting to return to the brand where I began my career, especially as we celebrate 140 years of innovation.
‘I am looking forward to working closely with the whole team, and our network partners, to drive sales of our incredible product line-up and build on our position in the market.’
Back at Smart, the brand has moved quickly to find Allbutt’s replacement, with Louise O’Sullivan now confirmed in the role of CEO.
She joins Smart UK having most recently served as deputy managing director and commercial director at Volvo Car Financial Services UK.
She has previously also worked as an executive director at Renault Group UK, including stints as marketing director and network operations director.

Commenting on her new role, she said: ‘I am delighted to be joining smart at such an exciting time.
‘The brand is going from strength to strength, with an award winning model range – including the #5’s recent crowning as What Car?’s Family Electric SUV of the Year – and the upcoming introduction of the new #2.
‘I look forward to leading the company’s continued growth in the UK over the years to come.’
