Polestar has ended production of its 2 electric saloon after six years, with a successor set to arrive in 2027.
The model – Polestar’s biggest global seller – has played a key role in establishing the outfit as a standalone brand but will now be moved aside in favour of new nameplates.
Production, which primarily took place in China, has now officially been wound down as the Swedish firm looks to build its new generation of vehicles.
In a statement, the company said the 2 had ‘laid the foundation for our business and inspired the models that followed it’.
It added: ‘The production end is greatly significant to us at Polestar and marks the end of a chapter as we prepare for a new era with the arrival of the Polestar 2 successor in 202.
The announcement comes after Polestar announced a major model offensive earlier this year.
The manufacturer has also continued to expand with the arrivals of the new 3 SUV and 4 coupe.
Philipp Römers, Polestar’s head of design, said the brand wanted to evolve its styling without abandoning the features that had helped establish its identity.
He said: ‘Polestar’s design and brand is already so strong, it was obvious we needed a bold evolution not revolution of what came before.’
