CAR supermarket CarShop has notched up donations of more than £22,000 to its selected charities in four months.
The impressive figure was achieved between the launch of its CarShop Cares programme in September and the end of January.
Among the beneficiaries was Make Some Noise, which supports disadvantaged children and young people across the UK and received more than £18,000 through national fundraising by the retailer. Everyone who bought a car through CarShop was given the option to give £1 from the sale to Make A Noise – the official charity of media and entertainment group Global. A host of other activities including charity auctions, calendar sales, dress-down days and a £4,000 holiday prize-raffle made up the remaining amount.
Emma Bradley, director of Global’s corporate social responsibility initiative Global Goodness, said: ‘We’re really thrilled to be working with CarShop, and would like to say a big thank-you to all their customers and staff who have shown their support for Global’s Make Some Noise. The money they’ve raised will make a huge difference to children and their families who need it most.
‘We’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with CarShop in 2017, and can’t wait to see what other brilliant fund-raising ideas they have up their sleeves this year!’
Each CarShop area has a charity that benefits from the support provided by Make Some Noise, and each CarShop store has an additional local charity that it supports. Under the CarShop Cares promise of donating £1 for every car sold to charity, buyers have the option of donating to Make Some Noise or the store-selected charity.
Since the launch of the programme, local charities have benefited to the tune of £4,323 across the UK. CarShop aims to continue this local support on top of the work being done with Make Some Noise.
Leo Nelson, CarShop’s marketing director, said: ‘We’re incredibly proud of the CarShop Cares programme, as it has inspired many colleagues to go above and beyond in terms of fund-raising efforts. On top of what we’re raising in our local areas, we have a £100,000 target for Global’s Make Some Noise, and using recent figures as an indication we’re all pretty confident that we can raise the additional funds throughout 2017 in order to smash our target.
‘Under the CarShop Cares programme we put a lot in place to make fund-raising more accessible for colleagues. We’ve given all colleagues an additional day off to contribute, we’ve set aside budget to assist with fund-raising and we’ve embarked on a continual education programme to make colleagues aware of the great work being done around the business, and it certainly seems like our efforts are paying off. 2017 is going to be a big year for us in terms of charity, and we’ve got loads of exciting things in the pipeline to support Make Some Noise, including a charity ball in May.’
