VOLKSWAGEN will sell 10 million vehicles this year, it has announced – putting it an astonishing four years ahead of target.
The German car-maker’s chief executive, Martin Winterkorn, said at the Paris Motor Show that Volkswagen had already sold more than 7.5 million passenger cars and heavy trucks in the first nine months of this year.
The Volkswagen boss explained that it was ‘well on the way’ to achieving a target of 10 million vehicle sales by the end of the year, four years earlier than originally planned.
VW also revealed its XL Sport at the Paris Motor Show, based on the XL1 but with a Ducati V2 engine. It claims that ‘there has never been a sports car like the XL Sport concept’, which is capable of 167mph.
Along with the XL Sport, pictured, Volkswagen is showcasing the new Passat GTE in Paris. This is the first Passat to be offered as a plug-in hybrid, which comes with a TSI engine combined with an electric motor. In ‘E-mode’, the Passat GTE covers up to 50 km all-electrically for zero emissions and has a range of 1,000km when the combustion engine and electric motor work together.
