Time 11:00 am, September 6, 2016

GERMAN premium car brands make up four of the five most common searches from buyers looking to finance their next used car.

Automotive data expert, cap hpi, has revealed that BMW tops the list based on consumer habits from its website, with 13.64 per cent of searches throughout the period of July 2016.

Only Ford breaks up the German brands’ stranglehold on the top five, coming in ahead of Volkswagen with 8.46 per cent of searches for the Blue Oval compared to 8.15 per cent for VW.

Manufacturer Percentage of recorded searches
BMW 13.64%
Audi 10.34%
Mercedes-Benz 10.03%
Ford 8.46%
Volkswagen 8.15%
Vauxhall 5.49%
Toyota 3.61%
Land Rover 3.45%
Mini 3.13%
Porsche 2.82%

Philip Nothard, consumer and retail specialist at cap hpi, said: ‘Looking at the data from the number of used cars consumers are searching online, there’s no arguing with the German dominance of the used market.

‘German-manufactured cars are book-ending the top 10 with BMW out in front and Porsche in tenth spot. The Germans give consumers the cars they want – engineering, a long history of car manufacturing, quality and brand recognition are just some of the factors that help them remain popular and appealing.’
