Extra Mile Award – Car Dealer Power Awards 2020

Time 1:08 pm, September 29, 2020

2020 will go down as a year of the motor trade wants to forget – but when we do look back it the stories of how the trade clubbed together will hopefully be remembered.

When chaos descended on the industry, there were a number of firms that decided that right then profits weren’t important but helping each other out was.

Our winner What Car? was one just firm when it released its New Car Buying Platform for free to dealers.

It did this from April to the end of September and was a brand that did all it could to help the industry out of the Covid-19 crisis.

Kate Hannam, director of sales and commercial partnerships for What Car? said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted with this award.

‘Not just me personally, but sales who got all of the dealers live, service who have helped support them along the way, product and tech who have been busy improving the product continually.

‘We’re just going to be celebrating endlessly in the office!’

Hannam explained how the company now has more than 1,000 car dealers now live on its platform but how the main success story for What Car? was being able to supply quality leads to them.

Thanks to the brand’s 50 years of heritage as a trusted car reviewer, huge numbers of customers have been using the website every day but now they have a way to complete their purchase too.

She added: ‘We knew that while the industry was struggling, then we would struggle too, and we knew that they had to sell cars. We wanted to support them with that.

‘We had so many come on board with us during that time.

‘Every week we’re seeing more and more sales through the platform.’
