GUY Salmon Land Rover is hoping to move to a new £10m showroom in Wakefield.
The dealership is currently in Barnsley Road, as pictured, but wants to build larger premises in Peel Avenue, Durkar. Parent business Sytner Group says the development is needed because it anticipates ‘significant’ business growth.
It has submitted an application to Wakefield Council in West Yorkshire for a 6.67-acre development comprising a showroom plus offices, workshop and parking for vehicles and bikes, adding that 100 jobs will be created by the new dealership.
Sytner said in a document submitted to the council that the proposed development was ‘an excellent opportunity to create secure, good-quality, full-time employment for the local labour pool’. It also emphasised that many of the new jobs were expected to result in skills being developed, as people would be taking part in various training schemes.
There are currently four objections to the proposal from the public, citing traffic and air quality among their concerns. They also point out that the site notice states that the proposals aren’t in accordance with the development plan.
It isn’t yet known when a decision will be made about the application.
