BYD has surpassed 100,000 UK vehicle registrations just over three years after launching in Britain.
The manufacturer, which began UK sales with the ATTO 3 in March 2023, said it has now registered more than 100,000 cars across its fully electric and plug-in hybrid range.
The milestone comes as BYD continues to rapidly expand its dealer network and product line-up in the UK.
Since launching with just a single model and five retail partners, the business has grown to offer 10 models through a network of 143 retailer sites nationwide.
More than a third of the 100,000 registrations – 37,995 vehicles – were recorded in the first six months of 2026 alone, highlighting the accelerating pace of the brand’s growth.
Chinese car brands are rapidly taking large market share in the UK at the expense of traditional brands with some 20% of new car sales this year expected to go to the Chinese.
Earlier this week, Geely sales director Andrew Stuart told Car Dealer that he thinks Chinese brands could soon account for as much as half of all new cars sold in the UK.
BYD’s achievement comes as the brand continues one of the fastest dealer network expansions seen in the UK market, with the manufacturer adding new franchises while broadening its model range beyond pure electric vehicles into plug-in hybrids.
Upcoming additions include the Dolphin G DM-i supermini, Ti 7 seven-seat SUV and Shark pick-up, while premium sister brand Denza is also preparing to launch in the UK.
The latter will sell the UK’s most expensive Chinese electric car – the Z – which will cost £172,900 for its R derivative and hit 60mph in under two seconds.
Bono Ge, country manager for BYD UK, said: ‘We are incredibly grateful to the 100,000 BYD owners who have placed their trust in us and to the 100,000 families behind them who have welcomed BYD into their lives.
‘We remain committed to delivering the very best ownership experience, supported by our nationwide network of 143 retail locations.
‘At the same time, we’re excited to bring even more innovative products to the UK.
‘We’re also introducing exciting new technologies, including our groundbreaking Flash Charging technology, to make electric mobility even more convenient for our customers.’
