18.05.09: Scrap scheme has started!

Time 10:01 am, May 18, 2009

scrap1CAR Dealer Magazine’s long-running campaign for dealer support from a scrappage scheme launches today.

We have, for months, been calling for the Government to act.

Car dealers need the new car sales boost the scheme is proven in Europe to give – and we have been at the front of calls for its introduction.

Finally, today, the scheme becomes reality. And the effect, say some car makers, has already been significant.

Hyundai has seen enquiries rise by 400 percent. Kia says it was taking orders for cars on the day the scheme was unveiled.

But the proof will be in the coming weeks. There are still unanswered questions over the scheme, for example.

Some are also critical the Government hasn’t been as generous as other European countries.

But all this won’t matter if it has the effect we hope – getting the car market moving. Raising sales for car dealers. Reigniting an industry that has been lagging for too long now.

We’re going to follow things closely, to see how the reality bears out. For this, we need input from you, too.

Contact us with your observations on how the scheme is going; rest assured, all will be read, and many will be published.

Scrap scheme IS now. Fingers crossed it works…
