Hyundai i10 was fastest selling used car in March, says Auto Trader

The petrol automatic 2014 Hyundai i10 was the UK’s fastest selling used car in March, according to data from Auto Trader.

Examples of the South Korean city car took 13 days on average to be snapped up from dealer forecourts across the country, making it the fastest selling used car since October 2016.

Coming runner-up to the i10 were the petrol manual 2014 Kia Sportage and the petrol automatic 2014 Nissan Micra, in second and third place respectively, with both of them taking 15 days to sell.

Kia certainly had a strong performance, with four of its cars in the top 10 – the petrol manual 2015 Sportage in fourth, taking an average of 17 days to sell, the diesel automatic 2014 Sorento in fifth, again with 17 days, and the petrol manual 2015 Rio was in eighth with 18 days.

As well as topping the national top 10, the Hyundai i10 took first place among hatchbacks in 11 of the 13 regions in Great Britain. However, Ford was the manufacturer that acquired the most number one spots, with East England, the North East, North West, South East, West Midlands and Yorkshire. The fastest selling car in London was the petrol manual 2014 Volkswagen Polo, with 21 days.

Auto Trader says that dealers who used its ‘i-Control’ data management solution, which tracks live market movements and makes buying and selling recommendations based on them, took an average of 25 days to sell a car, compared the national average of 65 days, meaning the service increased their selling speed by 62 per cent.

‘It’s not surprising to see Kia dominate the used car market,’ said Karolina Edwards-Smajda, Auto Trader retailer and consumer products director. ‘The Sportage has been extremely popular, and the seven year warranty means that even a 2014 model still has four years left, which is an extra level of peace of mind that most other manufactures just can’t compete with.

‘The high speed of sale which we’ve seen across our national list is very reassuring, but looking across the regions there are some top 10 listed cars spending over 40 days on the forecourt. The most effective way to turn cars more quickly, is using data to complement sales experience; pricing according to the live retail market, as well as stocking the cars that are most desirable within your region.’

‘This is excellent news from Auto Trader and continues the success they reported for Sportage last year,’ said Paul Philpott, president and chief executive of Kia Motors UK Limited. ‘We know that our 188 dealers nationwide are keen to get their hands on quality used Kias and clearly the same goes across the Used Car business generally. As we get ready to report a record first quarter for new cars this news shows that the motoring public’s demand for Kia products – new and used – just keeps getting stronger.’
