Lookers hands over support vehicle to charity for coastal trek

Time 11:45 am, March 5, 2018

LOOKERS has partnered with Nissan to provide a Navara pick-up for a charity founder who is preparing to tackle a 7,000-mile fund-raising walk.

Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care provides free transport between hospitals in Newcastle for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.

Charity founder Brian Burnie is now taking on a massive challenge to raise funds for the charity – a two-year, 7,000-mile walk around the Great British and Irish coastline.

To support the initiative, Lookers Corporate and Rosedale Leasing has provided a Nissan Navara, which will act as a support vehicle, and carry a vital generator that will power the living quarters of Burnie and his team.

The living quarters – which take the form of a converted double decker bus – have been donated by Stagecoach.

Lookers has a pre-existing relationship with the charity, having supplied a fleet of 30 people carriers and a nine-seater Renault Trafic minibus in the past.

On collecting the Nissan Navara on behalf of Burnie, Dave Harrison, communications manager at Daft as a Brush, said: ‘Lookers has been absolutely brilliant in their support for us over the years and providing us with this Nissan support vehicle will be a huge help during our challenge.

‘With so many miles to cover, it’s vital that we have a reliable vehicle that can take on the most treacherous of terrain, which is why the Navara is perfect.’

Matthew Eyres, commercial vehicle development manager at Lookers Corporate, said: ‘We have a great relationship with Brian and everyone at Daft as a Brush and we’re proud to be able to support him in his coastal adventure. It’s a fantastic charity and we look forward to helping it extend its reach to other parts of the UK.’

Brian Burnie set off from Millennium Bridge in Newcastle at 10am this morning with the aim of raising £4 million to expand Daft as a Brush across the UK.
