screen-shot-2011-10-14-at-084547CONSUMERS are interested in services such as Groupon and Wowcher when buying cars, says new research.

The findings from Motors.co.uk reveals that one in ten consumers would purchase car services via “deal of the day” sites such as Groupon and Wowcher.

Eight per cent said they would use these sites to actually buy a used car and seven per cent said they would use it to buy a new car.

The research also shows that consumers in Wales are most likely to buy a new car (15 per cent), used car (10 per cent) and book car servicing via group buying sites (15 per cent). This contrasts sharply with consumers in the east of England, who are least likely to buy a new or used car using group buying sites (three per cent), or use the site to book car servicing (six per cent).

Phill Jones, commercial director at Motors.co.uk said: ‘Group buying sites such as Groupon and Wowcher have been making inroads into the car market having already sold car servicing MoTs and accessories. We know that Groupon have experimented in the US with car purchase, but we think it is only a matter of time before a dealer or manufacturer in the UK strikes a deal that appeals to consumers.

‘Consumer demand for money off vouchers is at an all-time high with shoppers turning to online money-off vouchers to save on travel, days out, entertainment and eating out. Our research shows that there is certainly demand for voucher and money off deals on new and used cars, as well as servicing.

‘We are likely to see a growth in vouchers and coupons for car and related services over the next few months, as consumers continue to feel the pinch and try to make savings all round. We believe it is more important than ever to help the consumer feel as if they’ve won, this can be done either through group buying sites such as Wowcher and Groupon, or through investment in marketing and customer service.’
