TOYOTA has revealed pictures of its new GT 86 – the first GT car from the Japanese firm since the demise of the Celica.
Co-developed with Subaru, the GT 86 – pronounced ‘eight six’ – returns ‘Toyota to its sporting roots’ by featuring a front engine, rear-wheel-drive layout.
Under the bonnet lies a 2.0-litre boxer engine developing 197bhp and 205Nm of torque.
The engine is from Subaru while Toyota have added its D-4S injection system, which allows more power and torque to be developed without affecting fuel consumption or CO2 emissions.
The GT 86 features a limited slip differential as standard, and the suspension set-up includes MacPherson struts at the front and double wishbones at the rear.
The new sporting Toyota makes its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this week, and is expected to be in Toyota dealers in June. Prices haven’t been confirmed, but a £28k price tag has been speculated.
